Recently bought the above machine - minus HDD - for £50 from ebay - and It's in great nick.

MX 23.4 runs fine on it except that it can't detect the sound chip in system info. Sound works fine through a usb dongle but not through built in speakers nor the stereo socket. Is there a suitable driver ...

Having finally installed MC-23 and upgraded to 23.4, I would like to modify it as before with MX-19 (see viewtopic.php?t=59948).

Since there is now an MX-KDE i'm confident it is available.

I have already turned it off under Power Manager > Display; So what is blanking/locking the screen?

Is it Bug or a Feature?

I can't believe that no one else has this problem. It has never been an issue on previous versions.

xfce4-screensaver has already been purged - and shows as not installed in Synaptic - so something else is blanking (and locking) the screen?

Firstly, I was amazed and pleased to find that my Wifi printer (Canon TS5100) had been automatically discoered and installed. Are the drivers built in to the system or is it using the Cloud?

But, up until MX23, MX has been a joy and recommended to friends. However MX23 has been a nightmare ...

After a reboot, it completed - pheew!

But I'll remember you suggestion for any future similar situations..

As usual with a fresh install. on of my first actions is to update using Synaptic. Unfortunately the "screensaver" kicked in, blanked the screen except for the cursor and wouldn't resume so had to resort to Ctrl+| Alt+BkSp which ...

Surely root privileges are required to make such a change?

I set the root password (imaginatively) to root during installation. However, it is rejected when demanded (eg by Synaptic). The usb live session uses demo but that doesn't work either.

I have installed 3 times so far with the same result.

Is it possible to reset the root pw if I don't know what ...
