Today, June 10, was the first I tried backing up to my TOSHIBA EXT external 1 TB USB drive running only off USB power.
This was the first I tried since rewriting my MEPIS 12 partition w/ MX-16 about a week ago. I must have overlooked something. When I installed MX-16, I kept my user name and /home ...

Re: MX-16: In KDE how do you remove the username from the user login dialog box ?
After finding this wiki https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LightDM, I experimented with a system file. Here is what I found:
This worked for me for the lightdm window manager. I don't know if a similar procedure might work for another window manager.
Backup this system file just in case:

Thanks, timkb4cq, for bringing that thread to my attention.
I tried the fix, rebooted, and rescanned w/ xsane a couple times. Now I consistently get a a black rectangle 220 x 69 pixels. Hmmmmm?

Another graphics issue w/ MX-16 KDE - Canonscan LIDE20 scanner
After much patience trying different drivers on localhost:631, I finally found one that enabled me to consistently print two-sided documents (page 1 on the front, page 2 on the back) on my HP Laserjet printer, from both libreoffice writer and from okular.
So I thought I'd try scanning an image on ...

MX-16: In KDE how do you remove the username from the user login dialog box? - SOLVED
This is the dialog box with two white boxes for text input, one for username & one for the corresponding userpassword, that appears right after you boot MX-16.
I googled the title's text, and found it varies from distro. to distro. Nor is there anything about attributes for the user login dialog ...

Re: SNAFU w/ installing tarball under MX-16 KDE
I looked for the file control in ne-3.1.0/ but it wasn't there. I tried to build from this untarred tarball subdirectory after installing textinfo with #apt-get install texinfo.
Here's what I got.
jon@mx1:~/ne-3.1.0$ less INSTALL.md
jon@mx1:~/ne-3.1.0$ make build install
( cd doc; make )
make[1 ...

Re: SNAFU w/ installing tarball under MX-16 KDE
Stevo, I don't have any whitespace in any of my file or subdirectory names.
No texinfo. Can't get it. Don't know what it is. Don't care. If it were necessary it would be in the tarball, wouldn't it be?
root@mx1:/etc/apt# apt-get install texinfo
Reading package lists... Done
