Thanks for your replies.
I'll have to investigate further. What i have at present is root password working for Synaptic but then strangely user password for running aptitude.
I suppose it doesn't matter using the user password for admin if one is a sole user of a home PC.

Re: 23.5 - root password
Much appreciate your quick response. Pleased to say i have found it in MX Teak - other.
I tried the 32bit version when i thought my PC was not 64bit and don't recall this.
I did read a post about Debian not setting default root privileges but was unsure if MX had implemented that.

23.5 - root password
I have just done a re-install of 23.5 - 64 bit. I noticed when i did the synaptic updates the root password did not work and used the user password instead to authenticate in synaptic. This didn't happen before so i am wondering what i have done wrong. On the install i definitely checked the box for ...

I haven't been doing this for a while. For the new version last month i thought i should before installing. After putting the DVD in the drive, in the terminal iirc one should do cd /dev/sda then sha256sum 'name of iso' it comes back no such directory. I've mislaid my linux book so can't look it up ...

32 bit next release?
I also belong to a Debian list and have seen a msg that suggests that after Debian 12 there will not be another 32 bit release. I can only guess that MX will not be doing another - is that true?

Re: 11may24 update - gnome dependency missing i think
It would seem that there is a problem with the graphics card and i would be grateful for advice. I do have a Nvidia card which i could put in but not sure how one shuts of the built in Intel one. Presumably it is in the BIOS.

Just received a msg that Claws has a new release today [10jun24] for adding to the repo. Presume some on MX use it.
