Update 05/15/24 I had her unplug the modem and the router so they had to reboot. Then had her try the network to USB and that didn't work. I had forgotten about airplane mode. Since she can not help me try things very easily, the simplest way is to get the usb dongle. She can handle "plug it in". All she uses the computer for is email and solitaire.

Rebooting worked. In 20+ years of using LO this is the first time that I sort of broke it. And on a restart it asked if I wanted to recover the file.
