Re: Wifi not working on new install
Thanks to j2mcgreg, Charlie Brown, and CharlesV for helpful comments. The link to information about NetGear A6200 802 non-support was informative, as was the link to compatible devices. The PC is too far from the router for easy direct connection, so we are looking into alternative wifi dongles.

Wifi not working on new install
My son-in-law tried to "upgrade" his Win 7 PC to Win 11 yesterday. It wouldn't install and destroyed his existing Windows install. I recommended that he try MX Linux. He successfully installed MX-23.2_x64 but can't get wifi to work. He emailed a copy of Quick System Info to me that is provided below ...

Re: NTFS partition mounts read-only
Interesting bit of information about why Windows would lock the drive.

Re: NTFS partition mounts read-only SOLVED
I verified that fast startup is still disabled. However, the shift + power down idea worked when I rebooted to MX. Not sure if that was the fix or I had the luck of the draw. But it likely unblocked something. Looks like a Microsoft poison pill after all.

Re: NTFS partition mounts read-only
I disabled fast start when I installed Linux. For some reason, there was no problem until today. I will try booting with Windows and ensure it didn't change back. Thanks for the thought.

NTFS partition mounts read-only
I recently acquired a new PC configured with Windows 11 and installed MX-21.1 with a dual boot. My plan was to share the Windows ntfs partition for data. This worked for the first week, but suddenly the partition only mounts as a read-only file system. The folders and files identify as read-write ...

Adobe acrobat reader only prints in b/w
I used the AskUbuntu solution and it appeared to work well. However, printing is a problem. Acrobat only prints in B&W in low resolution, so it is rather useless. Haven't explored a resolution yet. I also tried installing Acrobat Reader for XP and Windows 7 using wine. It stalled and wouldn't ...

Re: MX 21 - Screen Stays Dark after Blank [Solved]
I had the same problem on an old Toshiba Satellite. The cure worked there, too. THANKS!

Re: LibreOffice Impress codecs
Just for information regarding MX-19. I tried LibreOffice 7 on the MX-19 install. It fared even worse and crashed on embedded image files, as well as videos. However for image files, Impress just crashed rather than locking up the PC. Another problem I had with MX-19 was that Dropbox wouldn't run ...

Re: LibreOffice Impress codecs
I have the files in the same directory, so that is not an issue. I have actually had more trouble with videos and Impress on my wife's Windows PC than I have had on MX to this point. I will have to give the 7 series a look.
Thanks.
Thanks.
