The reason I asked is that those other distros you mentioned are all SystemD based, so you might need to use Boot Options in MX Tools to enable a SystemD kernel and then reboot.
I tried booting with SystemD enabled but the symptoms remain!

Hi! I use the Fantasy Grounds virtual tabletop app to play with friends.
Whenever I start the app, the KDE desktop starts showing glitches: the taskbar becomes solid and unrounded, windows start to have screen tearing when moved around, Firefox browser creates a thick black border around its window ...
