Had a 2013 MacBookPro with MX on it as well for a long time, the camera was the only thing I could not get to consistently work,as Stevo mentions above, there is a driver but I could not get it to play nice for me.

I have created a new user which does have desktop icons and normal functionality, in comparing the .rc files in /home/%user%/.config/xfce4/desktop/ I am seeing that the original user (without working icons) has:

[xfdesktop-version-4.10.3+-rcfile_format]
4.10.3+=true

in them, where the new users do ...

my apologies, I have seen it go both ways and clearly didn't read the rules.
