If it helps at all, I'm pretty sure that whatever broke it must have happened in this batch of updates, as it was working fine before then.

No, still around the same 'starting setting kernel variables: sysctl.' message as before, just without the bluetooth clutter. It kind of looks like it's trying to draw another message after that, but it disappears before my camera can pick it up.

Disabling bluetooth at boot makes no difference.

Was having similar issues, followed the advice here to purge (not just disable) xfce4-screensaver, installed light-locker instead and haven't had any issues since.

The QSI is from when I first experienced the bug, but it made no difference to the behaviour whether I select the liquorix options in grub or not.

The boot messages go by so fast I had to try to record them on video, best I can tell this is the last frame before the black screen.

Issue popped up today after I let my laptop run out of battery, necessitating a reboot. Fairly fresh install, only a week or two old. Did some updates last night and when I went to boot up today I get a completely dead black screen immediately after the mountains animation. Not able to ctrl+alt+f1 ...
