it seems to me that if removing read-only in boot params allows the OS to boot, then couldn't I just remove read-only, allow the system to make the changes that makes it boot and make it persistent, then restart (which ...

Re: Won't boot. does the MX boot logo gif, then stays on a flashing caret [Solved]
Forgot to mention here that I could not resolve what the issue was and just proceeded to just re-install. I will mark it as solved with this for now unless told otherwise.

Re: Live-usb only boots with failsafe, crashes at "waiting /dev ... populated"
Hi, I'm back. I'm currently on Linux Lite on the problem system(with radeon driver, checked in inxi) as I write this.
I got around to trying again recently and here's what I've done:
- I remembered that I could just use my phone connected through usb to get net access so I proceeded to boot ventoy ...

Re: Won't boot. does the MX boot logo gif, then stays on a flashing caret [Solved]
after looking through the output of dmesg, there's this line close to the end of the file.
[ 8.096157] FAT-fs (sda1): Volume was not properly unmounted. Some data may be corrupt. Please run fsck.
could this be the reason why? should I try to fix it with fsck.fat?

Re: Won't boot. does the MX boot logo gif, then stays on a flashing caret [Solved]
I forgot to mention that I don't reach the login screen. the order of the things it displays is MX grub, MX boot gif logo, then the flashing caret. So even if I make a new user with root, I would still be unable to login with that through GUI, only through the tty1. though I did make a new regular ...

Re: Won't boot. does the MX boot logo gif, then stays on a flashing caret [Solved]
@j2mcgreg Ah, I meant that I can access the the root acc in the tty1(alt+f1), so it's still not booted. which is why I took a picture of the inxi -Fxz of the screen instead.
I will try getting the output of inxi to a file in the tty1.

Re: Won't boot. does the MX boot logo gif, then stays on a flashing caret [Solved]
Log in to your root acct --> run inxi -Fxxxrza in a terminal --> drag your mouse to select the entirety of the output --> right click in the body of the output and select save --> paste it here (in code tags) in your thread.
Once we have your QSI report in readable form, we can proceed.
I will ...

According to the forum rules (please read): Please provide full Quick System Info, use copy for forum button, no edits, no pictures of it please.
LiveUSB version is OK if needed.
I forgot that the QSI on the live-usb is essentially the same, will edit the post.
Is the inxi pic not needed ...

Won't boot. does the MX boot logo gif, then stays on a flashing caret [Solved]
I'm on 23.5(x64) and my laptop just stopped booting to GUI. After the MX logo, there's only a flashing caret. I think it happened after updating and shutting down, but I don't remember what was in the update. I also could not login with my user acc, only the root acc.
