wow thank you i never suspected. probably there is a yiddish word for it too :P thanks for your tips. changing the mirrors and updating seems to have fixed this. how does one check if the mirror(s) one has chosen are keeping up to the latest updates?

for some reason when i tried apt update, apt upgrade it never updated firefox :(

i already got a firefox launcher. when i click that launcher, it now creates a new gear icon on the taskbar and underlines it instead of underlining the firefox icon. so i have o remember to click on that ...

i'm on mx-21 and i had to update firefox manually because firefox was nagging me to update by march 14...i followed another post here to update and it has installed into /opt area but everytime i click the firefox icon on the taskbar, it creates another gear icon on the taskbar ...

but sometimes the files are like character files with 0 size and so on. i was able to copy my data but i didnt understand why this was so.

my persistence file (rootfs?) on my usb drive doesnt get loaded into RAM while booting. it used to do that normally, suddenly it has failed. it will only let me poweroff or reboot. it says things like:

overlay on /live/aufs has failed. no data available.

i have this heavily customised 21.3 that i'm enjoying using: i have not installed mx into hard disk, its a frugal install and all RAM loaded and flies beautifully! but i wonder is it possible to install new kernel from source and how to with this setup?
