Re: video problem ? with lenove M710q in mx23 and updated mx21

not sure I understand your reply (beyond my paygrade?) - I tend to go for legacy boots as have a number of old Lenovo laptops and tend to use different machines for different functions (eg I do a lot of archival transcribing - one machine holds photos and I transcribe on another with a third holding ...

Re: Asunder

A quick follow up but first the background - the initial problem was not a problem with Asunder but a change by gnudb requiring registration of the IP of requesters for cddb lookups used by Asunder to provide track listings. Ssuch registration needed also to be linked to a valid email address ...

Re: Asunder

but being in the test package implies that it or any updates it triggers may cause problems - maybe a better question is when will it move to be a standard update, at least to MX21, as it appears MX19 (which to be honest still seems the most pleasant choice for me as MX21 still throws up annoying ...

Re: Asunder

is Asunder 3.0 going to be available as an update (as gnudb have effectively blocked use of 2.9.7 under MX21 (better still MX19) - I'm afraid MX23 causes problems for me

Re: MX 19.4 doubleclicks, VLC + other 'built-in' such as FAQ no longer work

update
finally found problem to be a strange hardware error with the solid state drive - copying the drive to another drive restored functionality - quick tests on the old drive indicated no fault so still unsure of reason but at least have a working system

I have setup MX21 to cover most of my ...

Re: MX 19.4 doubleclicks, VLC + other 'built-in' such as FAQ no longer work

I've tried out MX21which once I moved Samba back to supporting old devices (a key requirement for me), I might move to put this as my 'web facing' machine - catch is at my age (old enough for my 1st home machine to be in the UK Science museum) I don't really appreciate forever chasing new programs ...

MX 19.4 doubleclicks, VLC + other 'built-in' such as FAQ no longer work

weird failure mode - the updater entry no longer shows, many 'open with' options no longer work eg featherpad, VLC, nomacs .. when there are updates available the green box re-appears and following the update all the above problems disappear - next reboot I can no longer use VLC etc
AFAIK I've only ...

Re: MX23 removal of clock etc overlaying background

yes - found it - catch is I'd never used Cronky so it hadn't twigged - it was easily fixed - but the failure of Samba within my network meant I just ditched it as was only a tryout - however having now got hold of a RPi 5 and disliking the Ubuntu offering the MX 23 respin for RPi5 looks to be what I ...

MX23 removal of clock etc overlaying background

thought I would try latest MX23 - the 1st 'annoyance' is how to I get rid of the large clock overlay on the background image (I always change this to one of my own photos) - the battery indicator is likewise very annoying - I can't see the mechanism to remove them.

I may need to ditch MX23 as I ...
