I read your post and found your research very interesting. HP Pavilion is what I run too, g7 for the 17" screen and full keyboard. For parts, I've found broken laptops nearly the same price and ended up with accumulation because parts differ from Intel to AMD and between models. My ...

Re: black screen blinking cursor Kernel 6.0.18

Thanks for the suggestion. I have kernel 6.1.0.18 running on a near identical model AMD A6 laptop via Debian 12 Bookworm, dual boot with Win7. But the hd is Toshiba, not Seagate. Could be the Seagate drive. That laptop is apart until a part I stole from it comes in. But, I'll do some testing with ...

Re: black screen blinking cursor Kernel 6.0.18

j2mcgreg The system information was not pertinent since I wasn't requesting help for that system. But for your information I am positing my record of what the system information was. I finally resorted to installing MX21 that installed without any issue and operated correctly after the first update ...

Re: Can't share png images created with GIMP

Whether you use copy & paste, drag=n=drop, the command line or a graphical interface (browsing to file and selecting it) to upload a file, the name of the file that transfers (I'm pretty certain) remains the same. If you do a Screenshot and paste the name of course might not be or if you are copy ...

black screen blinking cursor Kernel 6.1.0.18

***EDITED: CORRECTED THE KERNEL VERSION IN THE SUBJECT LINE.

After MX23 was first updated and rebooted (on an older AMD processor based laptop) there was a black screen with a blinking cursor. Jumping into another TTY it was possible to see the last message before the system halted which was ...

Re: MX 21 Repository: The QGIS thread

Thanks for your help. That's what I was looking for! I'll give Flatpak a whirl.

Until trying to figure out how you were able to display the version column, I hadn't seen the horizontal scroll bar.

Re: MX 21 Repository: The QGIS thread

I'm not the brightest bulb in the pack. These instructions: https://www.qgis.org/fr/_sources/site/forusers/alldownloads.rst.txt
are about as clear as mud.

My confusion I guess comes from the detailed instructions for other distros like openSuse, BSD or Fedora, Debian and Ubuntu but I don't ...

Re: Best machine, and Intel or AMD?

j2mcgreg Agree about the keyboard. I'd always worked with a dedicated number pad so my laptop selection was made accordingly. The latest model (a small Latitude) has no number pad and worse, "home" and "end" are accessed using the "fn" function key in combination with "arrow left & right" keys at ...
