CharlesV , if the problem is with my hardware, then all browsers would/should be equally affected, not so?
Yet, Brave is not affected, it opens in about 5s.
When I was running MX 21, I thought I must have screwed up something, so last week I completely reinstalled MX23, did a fresh install of ...

Re: Browser slow cold start
This does not explain why Brave starts 10 times faster.
And why others have the same issue.

Re: Browser slow cold start
After reboot, on a cold start of Vivaldi, this is the only output from shell
Code: Select all
vivaldi-stable
libva error: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/iHD_drv_video.so init failed

Re: Browser slow cold start
Thanks for the reply.
As the thread quoted will show, I run Brave on exactly the same specs, and get different results.
Current swap is irrelevant, as all tests are done just after startup, when RAM is at around 700M (out of 8G). My Swappiness=15.
There are also testimonies from other users (on ...

Browser slow cold start
I have been experiencing a strange situation on MX with a particular web browser.
Vivaldi (6.7.3329.39 Stable) has a very long cold start, i.e. approximately 60s.
I have started this thread on the Vivaldi forum,
https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/98873/slow-startup-after-boot?page=1

Re: xdg-desktop-portal-gtk seems to be breaking KDE functionality [Solved]
I'm not referring to FF or TB, but most every other GTK application.
Specifically, geany.
I already tried starting it with
Doesn't help.

Outlander
I have the same problem. Same OS/DE. The file picker still shows GTK picker.
However, I don't know what environment variables are causing this problem.
Could you explain what did to fix this?
I cannot find xdg-desktop-portal-kde in the repos. I also tried uninstalling the xdg-desktop ...

Re: Locales conflict
The bottom line is that I don't use (agree with) the locale def for en_ZA. So I decided to try to create my own - rather than fight with the whole Linux world.
My confusion, and the reason for my post, was when I saw KDE showing different numeric formats for the same locales definition, before I ...

Re: Locales conflict
TBH my main concern is in LO Calc. While investigating this, I discovered the discrepancy in locales.
If I could find a way of adding a custom Number format-code to LO toolbar, I'd just live with it.
As it is, I decided that creating my own custom locale might be a way to go, but (following that ...
