I have a 256GB SanDisk that's relatively new. I have been using it just a handful of time without any issues. Now for whatever reason it no longer mounts when I plug it in. Thank you both so much. I initially opened Thunar as root and changed the group to read and write and that didn't solve the problem. I didn't realize it until later that I did not change the group name to the user (me). Later I understood that I missed that part and now I have a usable BTRFS SSD ...

I used GParted to format a SSD to BTRFS, to be used as a backup drive. It doesn't allow me to create folders or paste/drag files into it saying I have no permissions. In GParted I see a lock sign under the partition column but at no point was I asked whether I want the partition to be encrypted ...
