Re: Best Way to Upgrade/ Move to New Computer & Drive
It's a little sad because there will be a LOT of PC's headed for the scrap heap after this fall due to Windows 11 incompatibility and these are perfectly good systems with Linux on them.
You can installing MX (or any Linux) on the old comp's and then installing Win11 in a VM to save these PCs ...

Re: Best Way to Upgrade/ Move to New Computer & Drive
I’ll give it a try and see what it’s like. I honestly didn’t know that existed. Thanks

Re: Best Way to Upgrade/ Move to New Computer & Drive
I TOTALLY understand why MX does not support in-place upgrades (excluding custom installations on top of your home directory). Supporting an "official" in-place upgrade process is incredibly complicated. The number of things that can go horribly wrong—well, it requires a lot of time, effort, people ...

Re: Action Retro Youtube Channel Gives MX a thumbs up
Ubuntu debs are not as dangerous as some people make it sound, they are safe in my view as long as they don't conflict with anything and nothing is removed when you install them (they will tell you and if you read the prompts and have a bit more common sense than Linus from Tech Tips you should be ...

Re: Action Retro Youtube Channel Gives MX a thumbs up
Reviewer is very complimentary, but keeps talking (and showing) how "wonderful" it is that he can install Debian AND Ubuntu deb files onto MX!
Comment" "MX is a better Ubuntu than Ubuntu".
Oh dear. That might steer some of his viewers wrong.
Yeah, it's nice to get a YouTube influencer ...

Action Retro Youtube Channel Gives MX a thumbs up
FYI

Action Retro gives MX positive review! He was using an old Macbook Air with MX on it. I had not thought those were so cheap, but as a throw away MX computer for the road and something that will not be missed too much it's a great idea.

Re: MX 23 or wait for MX 25?
I've been watching the various Debian mailing lists nd one thing is obvious: the KDE is generating a LOT more 'noise' about minor stuff compared to the last cycle (Debian 11/12).
My gut is MX 25 version of KDE will have more alpha/beta period post Trixie release this time.
Kde/plasma 6 is ...

Re: NVIDIA Rant. [Solved]
In any event the suggestion that you pin the Nvidia driver is a good one the other thing that may hinder Nvidia is a kernel update. which means the Nvidia driver may have to be rebuilt against the newer kernel. So sometimes it's a waiting game until everything catches up.
I stay away from Nvidia ...

Re: MX linux as a Server OS, does anybody do it?
Yes, I have 11 servers out there with MX on it. Three servers are file and DB servers, the rest are setup for Ubiquiti WiFi controllers.
I run liquorix on all of them as none of them are heavy use really. The file servers are fairly light ( 9 people max) and the DB's are document servers and SVN ...
