You may start first with installing MX-Linux in a Virtual Machine (VM), the same holds for testing significant updates..., test new configuration files. Saves a lot of time... As I'm now dual booting and already had a VM under Window, but there are interesting manuals how to set up a VM in MX-Linux ...

Under Debian you're always asked at the 1st use to choose for the internal mcedit or another editor.

I'm working on a data server using MX19. Most of the test work I do in a VM (virtual machine). I make and work with a clone of it as if I make a mistake I'm not sure to be able to repair... I trough away the cloned version, make a new clone and continue... My current server is a Debian Jessie LTS ...

Maybe it his handy for to have a complete story how to handle UEFI et al...
It is for Ubuntu but for this story that's ok, its quite similar to MX-Linux using apt.

Maybe it is indeed good to read the manual fist and then come back with improved question when it still needed. The moment 120 GB really becomes too small and you do not wanna miss something, and you really can miss the money, you can think of a larger SSD, 500 GB < 50 euro, but do not know your ...

How much room do you need for your data? Take enough... I always prefer a separate data partition, the moment the system partition may crash.... your data partition does not need to crash. Of course you have at least a double, separate backup of your data... ;) My clean, fully updated MX ...
