My PC is getting on in years. Recently the DVD writer developed an issue - wouldn't read commercial DVDs which it had formerly and wouldn't write to blank media. Except once in a while it would allow me to write out photos from my camera.
I replaced the DVD writer with a Hitachi. At first neither ...

Re: Adding a USB 3 card to an Asus M4A77T motherboard
Thanks timkb4cq, I was intending to buy from Amazon but the listings I've looked at seem to omit Linux as supported. Time for another search.
The details on the supported chipsets is most valuable.
Thanks again.

Adding a USB 3 card to an Asus M4A77T motherboard
The above motherboard only has USB 2 ports. I'd like to add one of the PCI-E USB 3.0 cards available but I'm not clear as to whether these types of cards are supported in MX.
Has anyone successfully added such a card to an old motherboard? If so I'd be grateful for a pointer to which types ...

Adding USB 3.0 PCI-E Hub to an older motherboard
I'm planning to add a PCI-E card to the motherboard in my signature (ASUS M4A77T). The model of card I'm looking at has a FL1100 chipset which linux-hardware.org suggests has been supported since kernel 2.6.31. I'm wondering if it is really as simple as plugging in the new card with no additional ...

Desktop icon font colour
Stupid question time:
The default font colour for my desktop icons is white.
I would prefer to have a somewhat darker colour to increase readability against my chosen backgrounds.
Despite searching the manual and the forums I've failed to find out how this could be achieved.
Obviously my search ...

Re: When did you start using Linux and why?
Way back when desktops were the only affordable system: Slackware 3.0 (mid 90's?) quickly followed by 3.1; Tried Debian (6 floppys to install - try that without an error); Redhat (hated it); Suse - it was great until it sold out; Ubuntu until they destroyed the desktop (Unity); Then a long period of ...

Re: Firefox 72.0.1 (64 bit) issue
Hi chrispop99,
Mi install is stock with no add-ons, but I tried your suggestion in any case.
Regrettably it gives the same result.
I'll look into trying to regress the version of FF to see if it really is an issue with the later version.

Firefox 72.0.1 (64 bit) issue
I'm using Firefox 72.0.1 on MX (my preferred distro) following a recent update.
It works fine for most of my sites, but I have a Library membership which requires authentication (Membership Nr. / PIN)
This has worked without issue on previous versions of FF under MX.
However following the update to ...
