If it's a 17 or 18 year old PC then it's from 2002 or 2003 and is probably a 486 or first-gen Pentium. MX Linux isn't going to run on that hardware anyway. IIRC the minimum processor for MX is a Pentium II

p4 was out by then. in fact it launched in 2000. mx will run on that.

dmesg and lspci are good ones to know when dealing with hardware. lsusb is a good one too. of these, i expect dmesg to be the most useful for what youre doing.
