would like to know where it went though - my MXPI feels incomplete :) I use the Emby Media Server and have never seen it in MX's repos. i don't think i got the media server from mxpi - just the theater - and it is still in my package installer on one of my devices. the server is on another computer ...

As @Eadwine Rose rightly pointed out, you have already tried the flatpack so I have edited this post. Been using emby theater without issue for years. I wanted to re-install it because it was playing up a little but it has vanished from the package installer....At least it has disappeared from the MXPI i have on this laptop - it is still on another laptop's MXPI and i am pretty sure the systems are ...
