For the record, I did not ever get this fixed, today, I downloaded and installed the Plasma desktop via the MX Package Installer, rebooted logged into KDE Plasma desktop and all has been working fine, no WiFi disconnected any more after retruning from sleep, no blank screen after login etc.

Update, still have the issue, but I also have another issue, after the screen goes to sleep, lid shut etc, I wake the laptop up, I get the login screen, enter credentials, I then get a blank screen, almost as if the screen has power-off again, it does this around 50% of the time. Only way out is to ...

I leave as is at the moment, it's no big deal, and it does sometimes connect and it's not exactly a show stopper.

Tried 5.10, same pattern, installed, reboot select 5.10 (non systemd), it boots, wifi connects, subsequent reboots it doesn't.

So, installed 5.18 kernel, after installing, reboot, wifi auto-connected, however, 3 successive reboot afterwards it fails to auto connect, so same sort of pattern, works after first boot, subsequent reboots it doesn't, now trying 5.10.

Another oddity, but not an issue, since updating to kernel 5 ...

I was using the ahs version of 19.4/KDE, so I will try the 5.10 kernel.

I have discovered that if I close the lid on the laptop, say for 5 secs, when I re-open the lid ( it's set to suspend on lid close) the wifi is then disconnected, does this evyer time. Also the screen doesn't lock ...

I have 3 Asus routers configured as a mesh network using wired ethernet for the backhaul to additional nodes.

Wireless mode is auto, WPA2 is set, for both 2.4GHz and 5Ghz, channel width is 20MHz for 2.4G and 20/40/80MHz for 5G, 160MHz is disable for 5GHz, DFS channel separation is disable as well ...

In reality I can live without a screensaver, just a blank screen will do, I have installed xscreensaver just in case, nice to have options.

This issues was there from first install BTW, I did a clean install of MX21.2 Xfce and the first few time rebooting after the install the wifi did not auto ...

It is set as per the above screenshot.

Previous to the upgrade this laptop was running 19.4 KDE and everything worked as expected.

I have noticed a side issue, might be a bug. Screen lock is working, but noticed that when I wake the screen after a period, the password dialog appears, enter password, all works as expected, but several times the wifi is disconnected and I have to manually re-connect.
