Re: xrdp blank screen and connection issue
(You can't use wifi because if you log out of a user..at least on the live version wifi gets turned off).
Perhaps that is my issue, although I am not using a live version.
The live version and the installed version are probably the same, for nearly everything.
There must be a way to configure ...

Re: xrdp blank screen and connection issue
x11rdp and vnc are a bit different in their approach. x11vnc which comes on MX is a mirror of what the screen is on the main display.
Since xrdp is not currently an option for me, I need to try an alternate application.
Have you used x11rdp or vnc with MX Linux? Is x11rdp the same thing as ...

xrdp blank screen and connection issue
Greetings,
I installed xrdp.
I then went to my Windows 10 PC, started up Remote Desktop, entered the IP address of my MX Linux box, and got the xrdp login screen, defaulting to xorg.
I entered my username and password, and got a blueish/greenish, blank screen. I waited a few minutes, nothing ...

read write file copy speed
Greetings,
How can I check the speed that a disk (or disks) is either reading or writing data?
I am not asking for benchmarking tools.
If a command (any command) is performing a file copy (cp, mv, cpio, ftp, etc), then how can I see the real-time speed of the disk(s) io that are part of the ...

Re: Linux mount command question for USB drive containing ext4 and NTFS partitions [Solved]
Linux did detect it, that's why it refused to show it.
Windows will not tell you that a ntfs partition has a dirty flag, it just grinds away trying to work it out and writing spurious log files endlessly causing the machine to run poorly. If Windows doesn't tell you until the filesystem is ...

Re: Linux mount command question for USB drive containing ext4 and NTFS partitions [Solved]
I found the problem and it is resolved.
When I plugged the drive into my Windows box, it asked to check the file system. It then asked to repair it.
Upon doing so, my MX Linux box mounts it.
But a slap on the wrist for Linux not detecting the problem or (if it did detect it) not offering any help.

Linux mount command question for USB drive containing ext4 and NTFS partitions [Solved]
Greetings,
I have a USB flash drive that has a small NTFS partition, and the rest is ext4.
When I plug it in to my Xfce MX Linux box, the ext4 partition mounts automatically.
But I cannot figure out how to mount the NTFS partition (I need to copy a file from the NTFS partition to the ext4 ...

Re: vim.tiny [Solved]
Yes, purge vim.tiny and install the full vim. You won't be sorry.
Added: The reason it's installed instead of the full vim is because it's TINY, and most users wont' have anything to do with it anyway. But, from a power VI user going way back, vim.tiny is lame to the point of being broken ...

Re: parenthesis: purpose in the command line
The same way "hoover" became a generic term to mean "vacuum", "google" is fast becoming a generic term to mean "do a web search".

I never use google as a verb.
I never recommend google as a search engine.
I always ...
