Just tested this on a fresh VB MX Base Xfce 64bit install as might use instead of Debian on my back up laptop to play/learn coding. Quite impressed running in just 265Mb on first boot rather than 560 on a similar MX full install.

Cheers, I'll download and save it for any future installs. Only installed i3-gaps a couple of weeks ago thanks to KoO's directions on a previous post.

Damm, I've just got 13 configured to my satisfaction over the past few days so was looking forward to catching up on my book but hell...i3 gaps will have to give this ago now !!

I've tried starting volumeicon first and last, also used 'exec-always' which restarts programmes when using Mod+Ctrl+r to restart i3 and still not playing ball.

Once again thanks for the help and suggestions. Managed to sort out a workaround of sorts that requires me to log out and back in again to enable sound without going through Xfce so although not ideal it will do until i have more time.
