Re: MX Linux ready for AMD 8700G

They offered me an AMD 7770X as an alternative, but think the offered be quite cooler (shadow rock LP) is not enough for this CPU. :/

The 7770X is rated for 105W and from what I've read, the Shadow Rock LP is rated for 135W whereas the Thermalright SI-100 is rated for 210W.

They confirmed ...

Re: MX Linux ready for AMD 8700G

Thanks, that's the cooler of my offer.

130 W. I think I'm fine with this as I want a 65 W CPU. I also have a microATX board and a rather small case.

I would head over to pcpartpicker and plug in all of your components (I did this when I built my computer two years ago).
It will tell you if everything will work together, along with case selections. https://pcpartpicker.com/list ...

Re: MX Linux ready for AMD 8700G

The Ryzen 7 7800X3D has a TDP of 120W and on the AMD site they recommend a liquid cooler for this CPU. But when I check the power consumptions at .phoronix it's much less then 120 W.

TDP stands for Thermal Design Power.

Re: MX Linux ready for AMD 8700G

Read this review by phoronix:
https://www.phoronix.com/review/amd-ryzen7-8700g-linux#google_vignette

I would give serious consideration for the Ryzen 7 7800 or Ryzen 9 7900 as alternatives.

Do you mean the Ryzen 7 7800X3D?

Edit: I will go with 65 W, so 7900 would be an option.
