Re: common home account on single usb for multiple mx computers
Michael-IDA told you correctly. But also, because USB drives are not permanently attached. It's fine to keep your common personal files somewhere other than in /home/USER/. Finally, you also need a reliable backup plan for those personal files. All storage media WILL suffer damage and/or die ...

Re: Anyone using a Sandisk G-Drive with MX?
For archiving purposes, a better value might be a pair of large traditional hard drives. I wouldn't waste money on solid state drives for bulk storage.

Re: Network printers get "lost" every few days. IPV6 problem?
Set your network printers to static IP addresses. That way once setup, they won't change IP and get lost. For many years I have setup network printers using LPD, with the IP address in the format: lpd://192.168.1.206/lp although I have recently setup two network printers using ipp (i.e. PP ...

Re: Best format option for small SD card
I use ext4 for flash drives that I don't keep mounted. The format meets my needs and is very stable and reliable. ext4 has some downsides that result in extra writes that may not be healthy for flash drives that stay in a computer and mounted. Also, by default, when formatting a drive with ext4 it ...

Re: Help Troubleshoot failed HDD?
Don't give up too quickly. Your 500 GB drive SDA has no partitions. Recreate you partitions on that drive, if you are able, then restore the contents from your backups, in particular /home. If you don't have backups, your data is likely toast. What is the state of your data backups? Note: The drive ...

Re: Any way to install a MX Snapshot created ISO without creating Live USB
Late to this party, but it might be more straight forward to use my script to create a compressed tar archive of the existing running installed system. I call the script stage4.scr and it's required partner file exclude.stage4, below, where /mnt/bogus in the script is a large flash drive (must be ...

Re: HP Printer died, what do you use/recommend on MX?
Even that's not necessarily complete. I have a Brother HL-5470DW I'm happily using with MX-23 that I don't see listed on that site. Of course it's not complete. Manufacturers keep spinning out new printer models as fast as people will buy them. Open Printing site is the most authoritative single ...

Open Printing web site is your friend: https://openprinting.github.io/
But, especially this page which I've been using for maybe 20 years: https://openprinting.org/printers

Re: HP Printer died, what do you use/recommend on MX?
I do almost all my printing to B&W laser printers. Cost per sheet for toner is less that 1¢ US. I currently have two. My Samsung M3320 is about 12 years old. My HP Laserjet 3055 is over 15 years old. Both are trouble-free and the HP 3055 is uber compatible. Almost any PCL or PS driver will work. ...
