Re: MX18-LMDE Respin
This respin is good, but I didn't managed to re-create a workable snapshot after upgrading to 18.2. The network doesn't connect. Also tried by changing kernel antix-4.9 to 4.19 and adding extension modules.

Re: MX18-LMDE Respin
Hi rasat,
thx for testing my respin. Have done this to provide a different software selection. The base for this is the antiX-core image with a lot of tweaks, so I'm using antiX kernels for older machines per default. You didn't find desktop-defaults packages from MX on this respin, so the the ...

Re: What's your experience with WINE?
I'm using two Windows apps on one of my machines via wine. foobar2000 and the great burning application AnyBurn. Both works great but CD-Ripping via foobar is not possible.
In my opinion there are no native Linux programs good replacements for that apps. For example I'm ripping Audio CDs with ...

Re: MX Cinnamon respin / remastering not possible
with Cinnamon DE it's easier you use LMDE3, add MX-repos and install some MX-Tools. It's a systemd system.
Wait a minute. Even though MX Linux uses SysV as its init software, you're saying the Cinnamon desktop environment itself
also installs systemd to replace it?
Please tell me I ...

Re: File /etc/machine-id Security and Privancy Concern
on my MX System dbus-uuidgen is working, so the file /var/lib/dbus/machine-id created at first boot. /etc/machine-id not exists in regular MX-ISOs. This file not created at first boot; /etc/machine-id is a systemd thing only. For compatibility to systemd it's better there is a symlink to /var/lib ...

Re: File /etc/machine-id Security and Privancy Concern
deleting /var/lib/dbus/machine-id is correct for a fresh iso. /etc/machine-id is a 0-byte file in Debian ISOs, so the system create the id at first boot via dbus-uuid. After the creation the files /etc/machine-id and /var/lib/dbus/machine-id have the same content.

Re: The Best Linux Distros for Laptops in 2019
+1 in this reason for deepin. I will give it a try. deepin is more leigthweight since version 15.7. Only a few apps and their own DDE stuff pre-installed. Actual version 15.9 looks very clean and the system has an improved touchscreen support. There is no live iso availabe but only the grub entry ...

Re: Request: gcc & g++ 8 in MX18
For a while I have included Debian Buster repo in my MX 18 test system and I have purged gcc-6/g++-6.
apt replaced this with gcc-7/g++-7 from Buster Repo automatically, not gcc-8/g++-8 but this is available too.
Note: It's an experiment. This system runs stable so far but it isn't recommandable to ...

Re: share folders on the network
think thunar-shares-plugin is a nice helper. Perhaps an additional feature for the MX-ISO. Looks userfriendly.
