I wonder, was this ever a real problem, as in did a hacker ever use that hole and do something?
Not just "a proof of concept"

I assume MX has those updates also, but not really sure.

This is because the development repo that contains the newer libglib2.0-bin than mate-control-center ...

That was me over there as "sdibaja".
I did make several installs, several methods. I got a long way with it.
but, bottom line, to me it was Not satisfactory compared to MX Mate or Debian Mate.
The dreaded Xapps conflicting with the Mate apps (that I consider far superior ...

"MX 18" or "MX 19" might make some think "reinstall probably needed".

I prefer simple "point releases" (17.2, 17.3, etc.) ... "Update and continue" is the mindset most of us are accustomed to with Debian.

Debian Stretch
spectre-meltdown-checker looks OK to me

I trust Debian for security. Stretch now uses 4.9.0-7 4.9.0-8 and it is current with all security patches.

LMDE 3 is difficult, not a good base for mate desktop. The end result is not complete or fully functional. Not worth the effort.
MX is much better in every respect.

Ikey has been trying to make a go of it for quite some time.
building from a team of 1 is difficult, he has to take any work he can to continue to feed himself.
