I would like some suggestions for how to get gnome-calculator working again.

Now, go back in and change the settings to Never if you dont want it to sleep, etc etc..
Sorry, this old man needs some clarification. Go back in where? The Power Manager? Which tab (System, Display or both)?
testing - you might want to set the "15 min" as mentioned above to say 5 min and see ...

I have everything on one 500GB SSD and a data folder with all my data in various folders (Desktop, Business, Non-Business and then lower-level folders by topic). So I do not use the default MX structure.
Do you mean "and a data partition with all my data"? If so that should simplify the detailed ...

Sorry, I was correcting the link when you posted. Debian Backport is behind on gparted, too. I am not saying that newer is better. Just that 1.7.0 is the latest and there is no 3.6.
