Re: freetype version & font rendering
Alright I'll try to update to try that. Do you think the instructions in https://mxlinux.org/wiki/system/font-adjustment still apply?
Do the fonts and config file downloadable here (scroll to "good fonts for linux") would be safe to use/still relevant to MX configuration? (like unpacking fonts to ...

I'm very curious to know the reasoning behind that choice and why you are not using a more recent freetype version?
Also on the topic of font rendering, in the Appearance > Fonts tab, does ...

Re: Safe switching computer?
Can you answer the first question of my last post? ("let's say I use MX17 as portable and persistent on an USB flash drive, if I don't install the nvidia driver I'll be able to use the stick on any other of my computers safely?" )
I really need to make sure (and I'm a linux newbie).

Re: Safe switching computer?
Confirm this to me though: let's say I use MX17 as portable and persistent on an USB flash drive, if I don't install the nvidia driver I'll be able to use the stick on any other of my computers safely? The os will check the computer's hardware it is being booted on and load the necessary drivers if ...

It used to work, I even downloaded and ran a benchmark (Unigine Heaven Benchmark), which only started to work after the nvidia driver install.dolphin_oracle wrote:the nvidia driver I don't think will work on a live USB.

Re: Safe switching computer?
Ok so I removed the xorg.conf file and the OS fails to load.
To be more precise it loads normally until all the usual text has appeared on screen then hangs on a black screen with a cursor blinking top left whereas it used to start loading the desktop at that point previously.
So that makes it ...

I am very new to linux and was looking for a distribution that would be portable and persistent foremost so I can plug my USB drive and go back into my ...
