#GRUB_DISABLE_RECOVERY="true" in /etc/default/grub and subsequently running update-grub and after this reboot.
However without any luck.
There is no change to the bootmenu i.e. I get the usual bootmenu (https://thelinuxuser.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/10.jpg ...

Thank you VERY much for the suggestions.
I've tried the procedure "copying a working entry" from /boot/grub/grub.cfg to /boot/grub/custom.cfg as suggested by the "Dolphin Oracle" and adding my custom text "init=/bin/bash" to the end of line which resulted in:
linux /boot ...
