Still staggering through Linux and not got xplanet on the desktop .

Found some strange ideas on the net like turning the desktop off.

Not giving up.

Was away for a long time-

Problem not solved and now pushed to the bottom of the to do list.

Have not worked on it yet.

Internet connection still not fixed.

Due to internet problems will take one more week before I can continue.

Technicians could not fix it today, so I am only limping along.

I did not have any problems with the deb package.

By the way installing MX again in English was a silly idea - did not help as could be expected but screwed my typing up (was to be expected).

I try your suggestion with the tar.

Getting a new SSD soon and will start all from zero and let you know ...

May sound silly but I give it another try.

First I will install MX again in English, and if I cannot get it to work I will try the alternative from launchpad.

Should I succeed I will post here - if not I hide.

I have two problems: one is I do have difficulties understanding Linux and sedcon English is not my native language; but I do my best.

Following your post I started looking for an image but could not find it yet. Will keep searching tonight.
