Does it show up as an input you can switch to if you install and run indicator-sound-switcher?
It does. The radio button to select it wasn't switched "on" (if that makes sense). I have now clicked/selected the radio button next to it. It seems it does not remain selected permanently but ...

Is your webcam showing as a input device in the volume control?
You should see it both in the Configuration tab as well as the Input tab.
My logitech doesnt show any output device for it until there is sound actually coming through.

This seems to be a recent issue as it worked fine in the past. Video output from the webcam is still fine but no sound at all. I've tried two webcams (Trust and Logitech) and the problem is there on both, I tried both of them on another machine running Mint and the audio is present there so this ...

I've tried reinstalling from the package manager but its still only version 90. Apparently the current release is 95. I'm wondering why the update manager hasnt taken care of this like it does with Chrome.

Why the symlink, instead of just making /home the mount point of the HDD?
You can also make own mount point (eg. /data) and symlink things to that.
I actually cannot remember what method I used when I installed the drives. I said it was symlink but now I am not so sure because I do have a vague ...
