Re: remastered ISO shows my deleted user accounts at login
I just noticed you marked this as solved but didn't provide and explanation. Care to share?

Re: remastered ISO shows my deleted user accounts at login
Just as an experiment, why don't you try the original refractasnapshot to see if it behaves the same. If it works then there is something funky in the port to Mepis. If it does the same thing, I suggest asking fsmithred over on the refracta forums as he is the original author. NOTE . . . if the ...

Re: MX-14 beta 2
Just discovered that the transparent skins work on my squeeze/gnome/compiz setup but not on wheezy/xfce. I'm guessing GeForce 8400 GS vs GEForce MX 4000 might be the difference? Here it is working on squeeze - Desktop and with browser open:

Re: MX-14 beta 2
This page: http://www.muhri.net/gkrellm/ has a link to a tarball with almost 200 themes in it. If you want to go non-transparent then their tarball contains a bunch of good starting points.
I am familiar with that site. Have downloaded a few themes that suited me but not the whole tarball.

Re: MX-14 beta 2
*edit* The transparent themes you posted are not transparent here (on refracta xfce). Are they transparent only for the moonclock?
The transparency is for the entire gkrellm, but only if you don't use a compositor.
IIUC there is a general conflict between psuedo transparency and compositing. Some ...

Re: MX-14 beta 2
GKrellM is a system monitor like Conky. Perhaps it is showing its age but it is usually one of the very first apps I install because without it it feels like I'm flying blind.
It has plenty of other tricks. I've attached a small tarball that contains 3 slightly different invisible themes. I have ...

Yup. Know that one well. Maybe there should be a 'blundering moments' thread just for giggles!arjaybe wrote:I call my method "blundering." I just keep blundering until something works.-)

Re: MX-14 beta 2
Sorry for the confusion.
No problem. I also suffered from confusion all my own. Maybe a senior moment? In either the GUI or CLI install there was mention of Windows in reference to the MBR and my knee-jerk reaction was "there's no stinkin' Winders here!" so I don't need an MBR. On my testing box ...

Re: MX-14 beta 2
This time I tried the command line install. I told the installer to put grub on /dev/sda1 (root) not the mbr (there isn't one). It reported completion but when I rebooted there was no grub, just a blank screen with a cursor. Couldn't bring up the console. No keyboard. No nothing. It was just dead ...

Re: MX-14 beta 2
And, again, just a reminder that MX-14 is not designed for low-end machines--where antiX rules .
This is a "midweight" distro.
I previously had squeeze with gnome2 and xfce desktops installed on this machine so I thought MX-14 might work OK. Unfortunately I don't have free space on my other ...
